Lessons to be learned from Pinocchio

“The right things may seem wrong sometimes, or sometimes, the wrong things may be right at the wrong time.”

With our summer camp quickly approaching, we want to take a look at one of the exciting shows we’ll be doing and the lessons that we can all learn from this beautiful story.

“Always let your conscience be your guide.”

As a symbol of Pinocchio’s inner voice, the character Jiminy Cricket helps us learn a very valuable lesson: the difference between right and wrong. Thestory of Pinocchio teaches us what a conscience is and how to use it to guide you in the right direction. Jiminy Cricket shares the comforting message that, when you need it, your conscience will always be there.

Through Pinocchio’s journey of proving himself to be honourable, we see him reject Jiminy Cricket’s advice, putting him in troublesome situations that could cause him to lose everything. Watching Pinocchio face the consequences of not listening to his conscience is eye opening and makes us realize how important it is to follow our gut instincts.

Thanks Jiminy!

Be truthful

“A lie keeps growing and growing until it’s as plain as the nose on your face”. During Pinocchio’s struggle with right and wrong, we see his nose grow each time he tells a lie and doesn’t follow the guidance of Jiminy Cricket. This helps us understand that telling the truth is a big part of doing the right thing.

Be brave

On a terrifying mission to rescue his father from the whale, we watch Pinocchio take on this scary situation and conquer his fears in order to save someone he loves. This significant act teaches us to be brave in hard times and to trust our own strength.

Be loyal

The message of being loyal is displayed throughout the story in Jiminy Cricket’s loyalty to Pinocchio, Pinocchio’s loyalty to Geppetto, and Geppetto’s loyalty to Pinocchio. In the end, they all prove to us that they will be there for each other and for themselves no matter what. And even though our loved ones make mistakes sometimes, it is important to stand by them and help them through challenging times.

It’s never too late to do the right thing

After all of the poor decisions that he makes throughout the story, Pinocchio eventually learns his lesson. He does the right thing by saving his father and earns the chance to be a real boy! From this, we learn that no matter how many mistakes you make, it is never too late to do the right thing.
