We hope you’re all as excited as we are that Marquee’s teen group will be doing RENT this season! Here are 5 reasons that this show holds a special place in our hearts.

1. The Characters

These incredible characters are all relatable in so many different ways. Their self-discoveries throughout the show as they face their own individual hardships are inspiring, and as they come into their own, we in turn can do the same. Watching these characters embrace what makes them unique encourages us to view ourselves in the same light.

2. Catchy Songs

As hard as we try, we will never be able to get the lyrics to “Seasons of Love”, “Take Me or Leave Me”, or “La Vie Boheme” out of our heads. Not that we’re complaining or anything. We’re counting down the days until we can rock out with our teens!

3. Love

At the heart of this story is love – we see love in all forms represented through these characters and their varying genders and sexual orientations.

4. Friendship

The strong bonds that they have with one another help us realize the value in supporting and being there for our friends through hard times and encourage us to cherish the time we have with our loved ones.

5. A Storyline That Changed Broadway

Rent deals with real world, mature topics such as HIV and AIDS, with a cast of characters that widely challenges gender roles and highlights different sexualities and races. To do all this in the 90s, no less, was a huge step forward for the future of Broadway.
